Student FAQ’s

What are the Prizes?
We're asking employers to either donate products valued at $50 - $100 or more or provide cash to purchase prizes valued at $50 - $100 or more. As soon as we get a good sample of donations those will be posted to the web site and an email will be sent to all co-op students directing them to come back and see what they could win.

What if I don’t have a photo of me on co-op?
Then take one. In fact, get your employer involved and they may even have suggestions about photos or even bring in the company photographer to take one that’s professional. If you’re already back in school it’s still not too late. Take a picture of yourself on campus wearing the company logo on your shirt. Even a plain photo that’s only your face will work for us.

What if I just sit at a computer so I don’t have an interesting photo of me on the job?
Get creative. Take a picture of yourself with the company’s product. Take a picture of yourself in front of the company’s sign. Take a picture of yourself socializing with new friends or in front of interesting landmarks in the city. Remember the photo is supposed to illustrate your entry so have fun with it but remember that any off color photos are not likely to make it past the committee.

What if I don’t have a digital photo or a digital camera?
You can have regular photos scanned in and converted to a digital format.  Photos submitted to the contest must be no more than 100K. For explanations on image size and types, refer to About.com's FAQ.

What if I don’t like to write?
We can’t fix everything for you – you’ve got to write something. But 300 words is really very little and remember that’s the MAXIMUM. There is no minimum but this is a competition so you don’t want to sell yourself short. Explain in your own words why your job is cool and try to get a friend to read it over and give you feedback. Pick a friend that does like to write and get him/her to help you. By the way you’ve just read 84 words so triple this and you’re at the maximum.

I’ve submitted my entry but I don’t see it online anywhere?
The submission process runs from February 1st, 2011 – March 18th, 2011. Nothing will be posted on the voting web site until the submission is approved.

What if I want to change my entry?
You will be able to edit your entry until you decide to submit it for approval. Once your entry has been approved by the committee it becomes an official submission and can no longer be changed. As long as you have not yet submitted your entry for approval during the contest submission period you will be able to edit your entry.

How are the entries judged?
There will be an online voting period in which anyone can serve as a judge. The general public serves as one judge on the team. The OCEA Executive Board serves as the final judging body.

How do I find out if I’m a winner?
We will notify each of the winners by April 30th, 2011 and tell you how to pick up your prize. By May 20th, 2011 we will have announced the entire population of Ohio’s Cool Co-ops Winners to the world.
